Report Cards

I feel that schools should stop sending report cards and news letters in the mail in fact maybe even the weekly news letters that my elementary age daughter gets every week. The reason for this is look at the money they could save on postage and paper, of course the post office would not like this. Then the money they save on postage and paper that sometimes never makes it out of the classroom could go to use in the classrooms on technology. So do you think that I am correct on this or not?

  1. When I did my student teaching last semester, I was told that the reason we sent home paper copies of everything (weekly newsletter, parent notes, report cards) is because the parents liked the paper copies. In our district (low socio-economic, lots of ELL) they felt that parents did not have Internet access or would not know how to check for it. And they wanted to stay connected with the parents. So I guess it just depends on what school your child attends/where you teach. Ideally, I think putting it all online would be great!
